North Carolina State University is located in Raleigh, the state capital, which
has a population in excess of 220,000. The Research Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham
and Chapel Hill) has a total population of more than 650,000 and also includes
the Research Triangle Park, one of the nation's largest and most successful research
parks, and two other major universities, Duke University at Durham and the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This concentration of industrial and government
research organizations and three major research universities provides a stimulating
and challenging environment in which to live and work. Raleigh has excellent facilities
for sports, recreation and cultural activities. NCSU sponsors numerous music,
theater, and dance series. The climate is superb, and both the Blue Ridge Mountains
and the renowned North Carolina seacoast are within a three-hour drive.
