NCSU-Kenan Natural Hazards Mapping Program
The NCSU-Kenan Natural Hazards Mapping Program is a part of the
Department of Civil Engineering
at North Carolina State University.
Funding is provided through grants from the Kenan Institute for
Engineering, Technology, and Science, the Federal Emergency Management Agency,
the North Carolina Division
of Emergency Management, the North Carolina Division of Coastal
Management, and the North
Carolina Department of Transportation. The Mapping Program is a
University Partner with Intergraph
Corporation. Our research goal is to apply state of the art digital photogrammetric techniques to the identification and mitigation of impacts from natural hazards along shorelines. Current projects include assessment of post hurricane storm damage, analyses of long-term shoreline change, monitoring impacts of coastal structures on inlets and adjacent wildlife habitat, development of detailed elevation models and mapping of erosion hazard areas. The products of this research are used by state and federal agencies for coastal resource management, hurricane preparedness and hazard mitigation. For more information about the Program, contact Dr. Margery Overton or Dr. John Fisher.
