From the Department Head
I bring greetings from NC State.
NC State has a great program. With 40 faculty members, 700 undergraduates, and 240 graduate students, ours is one of the largest departments in the country and also one of the best, ranking in the top 10 percent of all civil engineering departments nationwide, based on US News and World Report. It also has many distinctive assets such as the Constructed Facilities Laboratory, headed by Prof. Sami Rizkalla, and the more than 50-person Institute for Transportation Research and Education headed by Prof. Nagui Rouphail.
Over the past few years, we have formed a departmental advisory board, embraced a new theme - sustainability - and the image of being the primary care physicians for the earth, as well as added new programmatic elements, like practioners-in residence. We continue to improve and enhance the department and its activities in order to remain at the forefront of research and education, preparing our students, both graduate and undergraduate, for successful, long-term careers.
