Distance Education MCE Plans of Study

You may take a selection of courses planned by you and your advisor to meet the flexible Civil Engineering program and Graduate School requirements. There are opportunities to develop either significant depth in a specialty or to seek a breadth of knowledge from logically related areas. The listing of previously offered and planned CE distance courses can be helpful in determining availability. Supporting courses from other departments can also be included. The Civil Engineering primary specialty areas with distance courses available to date are as follows:

Construction Engineering and Management

Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineering

Structures and Mechanics

Transportation Systems and Materials

Water Resources and Environmental Engineering

Supporting courses may also be selected from other disciplines such as statistics, operations research, computer science, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, public administration, and business. Some of the supporting area courses are offered through Engineering Online and others through Delta.

The typical Plan of Graduate Work often has about 6 or 7 of the courses from one specialty area and the remainder selected from other related specialty areas and supporting areas. It may also be possible to arrange a special project under CE 675 (up to 3 cr. hrs.) allowing guided independent research and study of a topic. CE 675 requires submission of an acceptable major report on the project.

The following are example Plans of Graduate Work. The courses shown in each example are not required sets of courses but are representative of possible selections.
