Financial Aid
Financial aid is available in the form of teaching and research assistantships
and fellowships. Assistantships normally require half-time service in the Department's
teaching or research programs. Tuition payment and health insurance coverage is
provided for half-time assistants. Full fellowships with no service obligation
and partial fellowships, which may supplement an assistantship, are available
for exceptional applicants. Many fellowships provide tuition and fees in addition
to the stipend. All financial aid recipients are selected in merit-based competition
with other applicants. Most fellowships are restricted to U.S. citizens and require
GRE scores. Applicants may request financial aid in the space provided on the
Application for Admission form; there is not a separate financial aid request
form. Applicants requesting financial aid are encouraged to submit complete applications
well in advance of the admission deadlines.
