Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental EngineeringField of StudyThe Civil Engineering Department's Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental Graduate Program at NC State University provides civil engineers and geologists with a broad background, enabling them to respond to present and future multidisciplinary challenges related to the geotechnics of civil engineering.Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental Engineering involves the analysis, design, and construction of earth and earth-supported structures, which include earth dams, levees, excavations, foundations, highway and airfield embankments, and temporary and permanent retaining structures. Geoenvironmental engineering deals with the application of geotechnical engineering to environmental problems, which include geotechnics of waste disposal, waste containment and confinement, and physicochemical phenomena of soils. Courses of study cover soil mechanics, soil dynamics, geosynthetics, soil improvement, groundwater and seepage, and the evaluation of soil properties and physicochemical behavior.
Financial SupportFellowships, traineeships, teaching assistantships and research assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Out-of-state tuition differential is generally paid for U.S. citizens who are awarded a teaching or research assistantship.Contact InformationMohammed (Mo) A.
