International ApplicantsApplications from qualified international students are welcomed. However, the applicant's qualifications will not be reviewed until a formal application and the application fee are received; this fee is not waived. In addition to transcripts, resume, GRE scores, and references, most international applicants must submit a TOEFL score. Following a recommendation for admission, the applicant must also submit a Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR), which certifies that the applicant has adequate financial resources for the intended period of enrollment. Admission is not granted until the CFR is submitted unless the applicant is selected for full financial aid.A minimum TOEFL score of 80 (iBT), 213 (CBT) or 550 (PBT) and scores of at least 15 listening, 20 reading, 20 writing, 20 speaking (iBT) or 17 (CBT)/50 (PBT) on two sections are required. This requirement will be waived only for an applicant with a degree from an institution of higher education in the U.S. and for applicants from countries listed by the Graduate School as not requiring the Toefl. However, even for applicants from the listed countries, submitting the Toefl provides additional information helpful in our evaluations, particularly if aid is requested. The Graduate Record Examination (General Test only) score is required to expedite consideration for admission and financial aid. Financial aid usually is available for exceptional new international applicants.
When assistantships are awarded prior to admission, the amount of funding is
usually sufficient to meet the support level required for issuance of the I-20. |
