Public Works Engineering and Administration
Field of Study
The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environment Engineering at North
Carolina State University offers graduate programs leading to advanced civil
engineering degrees with specialization in Public Works Engineering and Administration.
Three graduate degrees are offered: Master of Civil Engineering (M.C.E.), Master
of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
Areas of emphasis include engineering and management of constructed facilities,
transportation systems and pavements, water resources, and environmental engineering.
Faculty from these areas provide courses, advising and research guidance to
students pursuing the public works specialty. Since students with interests
in Public Works often have primary interests in one or more of these areas,
the students Plan of Graduate Work is tailored to these needs and interests.
About one-third of the required credits in the Plan of Graduate Work can come
from supporting programs. For the Publics Works Engineering and Administration
specialty, courses may be considered from programs such as Public Administration,
Business, Economics, GIS, Statistics, and Urban Planning as examples.
