Wan Jiao, a Ph.D. student working with Dr. H. Christopher Frey in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State, received the Student Merit Award from the Exposure Assessment Specialty Group of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) at SRA's Annual Meeting in Charleston, SC on December 7, 2011. Ms. Jiao presented a paper on "Assessment of Inter-individual, Geographic, and Seasonal Variability in Estimated Human Exposure to PM2.5." PM2.5 refers to small particles in the air that can be inhaled into the lung, leading to the risk of adverse health effects. Ms. Jiao also received Student Travel Awards from SRA and from the Research Triangle Chapter of SRA. The Society for Risk Analysis is a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, scholarly, international society that provides an open forum for all those who are interested in risk analysis.
