Research Projects, 1994-97


The Civil Engineering Department administers an expanding research program. During the past ten years, research funding has increased significantly in all of the Department's specialty areas. During 1996-97, thirty-three faculty members directed 102 external contracts and grants with a total value of more than $14 million and estimated annual expenditures exceeding $5 million.

The diverse research programs include individual and interdisciplinary projects. In addition, a significant portion of the Department's research is conducted through three research centers:

Research funding has been provided by federal, state, and industrial sources. The federal sources include the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP).
