Research

In research, we question the answers.

Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Faculty Group Picture Spring 2011

Computing and Systems

We're focused on parallel and distributed processing, mathematical modeling and optimization methods, numerical methods, decision support, real-time systems, software engineering, simulation, and data assimilation. We often work closely with the CSC and OR departments.

Upcoming Related Courses

Fall '12
  • CE 537 – Computer Methods and Applications
  • CE 791 – Advanced Topics in Civil Engineering Computing

Construction Engineering and Management

We're focused on meeting today's unprecedented challenges in planning, designing and managing the construction process as well as helping develop and implement more modern and efficient construction technologies and management principles.

Upcoming Related Courses

Summer '12
  • CE 565 – Construction Safety Management
Fall '12
  • CE 564 – Legal Aspects Of Contracting
  • CE 567 – Risk and Financial Management in Construction
  • CE 592 – Special Topics in Construction Engineering

Geotechnical / Geoenvironmental Engineering

We're interested in the analysis, design, and construction of earth and earth-supported structures, which include earth dams, levees, excavations, foundations, highway and airfield embankments, and temporary and permanent retaining structures. Needless to say, we have some really 'big' problems to solve.

Upcoming Related Courses

Fall '12
  • CE 548 – Engineering Properties Of Soils I
  • CE 741 – Geomechanics of Stress Deformation
  • CE 746 – Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering

Structural Engineering and Mechanics

We're working with advanced concrete and steel design, structural mechanics, structural models and experimental mechanics, earthquake engineering, offshore structures, probabilistic methods, plasticity, finite deformation theory, continuum mechanics, and wave propagation in solids. How's that for 'tough'?
